Low-voltage lighting operates below line voltage; the NEC's Article 411 framework covers listed systems up to 30 VAC or 60 VDC. In commercial practice the term spans two distinct architectures — PoE lighting over Cat5/Cat6 cable and 48V connected lighting over 16/2 or 18/2 conductors — plus wireless controls. These architectures are not interchangeable.
