BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC)

BACnet/SC

BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) is the encrypted BACnet transport standardized in 2019. It wraps communication in TLS 1.3 over WebSockets, authenticates devices with certificates, and lets the building owner control the certificate authority rather than the manufacturer or integrator holding the keys.

What it is

Lead with the owner-controlled certificate authority — it converts a security feature into a control-and-ownership argument. Residual MS/TP trust boundaries persist, so BACnet/SC pairs with OT/IT segmentation and firmware governance; it does not replace them.
